Dog justification

Certainly not all people should have dogs. Many who do have them, and never let them out of the back yard, most likely should not as well. As for me, cannot imagine not having a fuzzy buddy.

Congrats on the new puppy! As mentioned many times over now, it's a lot of work, but super rewarding owning a dog. We have 2 rescues, one about 4.5 years ago, and the other about 2 months ago. We got them both at around 5-6 months old.

i second pet insurance. My previous cats had issues and I spent a few grand for them. Now I have two new kittens and we bought insurance for them. About $30/month for issues outside of annual check up (not covered.) It definitely offers a great peace of mind.

We lost our chocolate lab March of 17 and mentally committed to a simpler life (with our son off to college).
Our son started asking if we would get a dog this past winter, coinciding with his break. They're used at a number of colleges for stress-therapy and he didn't miss an opportunity to visit with an on-campus dog. We could also measure his stress by the number of pup pictures that he would send us.
Started searching the rescue sites and even considered a few breeders, but as his break neared its end, we figured "it wasn't meant to be". The Friday before he was to go back, my wife and I both got notes from friends asking if we had noticed the dog that was just made available at the local shelter. 5 hours later, we welcomed Harry into our house.


He's been a handful ~ our sense is that he was taken from his litter too soon and surrendered so quickly that he was very insecure, but he sure does add to the family.

Not quite as cute as seeing LITTLE kids with their dogs, but big kids enjoy the company of dogs, too. This is the ritual for when my son comes home from work.


*For reference, our son is 6'3" and right around 200 lbs...and, well, Harry is between 9 and 10 month old Newfoundland-Poodle mix.

They are so awesome at that age. Well any age really. My mom always had two of them. Her last one is now 12 years old but still full of it. We had Carin's too. Terroriers are the best!

Congratulations on the new pup!!! That picture is awesome. You've got a beautiful family. Not a dog owner, but have had them in the past growing up. Have cats now that mean the world to my wife and I. And it seems this little pup is going to get lots of love. Enriching all lives involved. And that is awesome!!! Matthew
