We are a community of voices

Of late, I saw a number of my pals posted something that can only be described as somewhat of a misunderstanding.

Paceline does not hate disc brakes, or other new technology.

Paceline does not just favor old school or classic bikes.

Paceline does not disparage brands like Rapha or Specialized.

You can add to that list whatever assumption or conclusion you may have regarding Paceline.

The truth is, this is a community of many voices.

The ones that you find who are vocal or persistent or stubborn - they are but only a small cross-section of the larger community.

Just because they are loud, doesn't mean they represent all of us.

Just because they keep perpetuating the same viewpoints, doesn't mean the rest of us follow the same line of thought.

You have to understand something. This world that made up of all of us is huge....i mean, HUGE!

Just look at the new screen names that popped up every day. We are adding to our ranks daily, new people, new perspectives, new voices.

Just because they lurk or maintain silence, doesn't mean they are not there.

Together, we make up this community called Paceline.

I know you won't see this because you block my responses(ironic) but this is a bike DISCUSSION group and like any discussion of any subject, it makes it interesting to see other peoples points of view, even if they 'shout' about it. And gee some points of view are based on real world experience..like how dumb some bike things, in the wild. So be loud, be persistent, be stubborn, it's what makes the world(and this forum) interesting.
As you imply, it's not a BAD thing, as long as it doesn't get personal(like 'some' have posted some things in the past about some 'pals'..doh!)

PACELINE is just the stage with many people and personalities and to imply that some are somehow 'bad' and somehow sullying the paceline 'rep'(loud, persistent, stubborn..hello!!) is off the mark. A 'stage' doesn't have the personality, the actors do. IMHO, of course.
out.

...and that community of voices tends to skew towards preferring a certain type of ideal for a bicycle.

It's a bit of a self-selecting and self-confirming group. Whats the last downhill MTB thread that got posted?

Opinions and personality are what make this forums so...useful/knowledgeable/fun(ish).

People sometimes forget that the opinions of others aren't wrong and doesn't make person a bad person.

One piece of advice I learned when I was training a puppy (that also applies to people) is that a dog that pees on the floor isn't a bad dog. It did a bad thing. It's still a good dog, that exhibited a bad behavior.

When someone says downtube shifters are stupid, that doesn't mean that person is stupid or not as good as you. They just have a different opinion.

Now everyone shut up. And have fun.

Oh I totally agree. The few and the loud do post a lot but if you check enough threads you see how varied a group Paceline actually is. Some people just have a hard time accepting change. The same thing happened during the rise of carbon frames and just like that situation, soon the brake debate will peter out too.

There are many more new members posting here and this is IMO a great cycling board. There are bike forums that have become a stagnant and stifled echo chambers but this one keeps that at bay by having more members with a more broader definition of cycling.

all one needs to do is stroll through the "show me your gravel bikes" thread to see that basically every kind of bike is represented here. old to new, $15k to $50 bikes, disc to rim, carbon to steel.

it's ok if some of us favor rim brakes and mechanical shifting. keeps the discussion alive IMO.

personally, i dont "hate" anything bike related. hate is a strong word

oh, except pickle juice. i HATE pickle juice.

What kind, Bread and Butter pickles or Brine pickles or Dill pickles, one is sweet another salty and Dill, some are spicy mixed with hot peppers or Kosher? Or are you just one of those summer of love geeks and not man enough to make a decision?

Ok, this made me laugh. I can't imagine what on earth you said that made him block you. You both seem pretty easy going, but what do I know? Should I block you too? Just to save time later?
