Everytime I've gone to Kauai the roads have felt way to sketch to ride between narrow (or, more likely, no) shoulders, big trucked locals and distracted tourists. How'd you find the riding? Feel safe?

It’s definitely far from ideal on some of the main roads, but I don’t feel particularly unsafe. It helps to get out really early here, which I did not do today and there was a noticeable difference in terms of traffic. This is definitely not a place for a cycling vacation, but this trip has been long enough that I needed to get some riding in. Some of the drivers pass closely, but they don’t seem as angry as some of the Sothern California drivers.

Hey bobj,
The frame model, the brakes and tires you're using, and how it rides!

I also just like the way it looks - particularly the crankset and shifters - so I thought if there was a dedicated build thread I'd be able to ogle some more photos.

Still pretty hot and unusually humid at the beach yesterday, found myself envying the stand up paddlers out on the ocean (you may have to squint/zoom to see them)

People around here tend to rag on Lompoc, but those who do tend not to have visited in the last 5-10 years or more. It's now got a number of local/biodynamic/organic wineries, at least one brewpub, and a few really good restaurants.

And -- anywhere that's mid-sixties in SoCal in July is alright in my book.

San Miguelito Road, on the edge of Vandenberg AFB. More like 60 degrees in the clouds/fog at the top of the hill (or at least the top that the public can get to!)

Checking out the ruins of IBM Kingston as they start to tear it down. There are like 100 fire extinguishers just sitting out here. My bike is on the concrete floor of what used to be a building.
