Tandem - Central Switzerland

With 2 weeks holidays and no trip planned, we decided on a 2 day trip with my son, on the tandem.
The tandem is a Cannondale MTB bike, which has a glorious past, having won the Grand Raid (a very renowned high mountain race) with its former owner. It has been repurposed with road tires, our saddles and its original non suspension fork. Free plug for SRAM here: In the 5 years we had it, I *never* even touched the shifters, still works great.

First day we drove to the South station of the Lötschberg tunnel, to bring us to Kandersteg. This is the place where the ski jumping competitions would have taken place, had the Olympic games taken place in Sion for 2026. From there it was down the valley to Thunersee and Interlaken for a very athletic dinner - I let my son choose the place and the menu. After dinner the pedaling-cum-digesting meant a slower pace to Ballenberg, over the Brienzer See.

After a welcome cool night in this warm summer, we started the 2nd day with climbong the Brünig pass, which is not very high (1008m) but silly steep, moreso on a tandem. We made it without toppling over. A long descent rewarded us to the Vierwaldstätter See, via the Pilatus. We met up with wife/mom, who had driven to Luzern in the early morning. The ride finished by the Kappelbrücke in Luzern, and with a visit of the Transportation Museum in Luzern (a must see if you travel there). Another night by the lake by the Rigi was enjoyed, then a drive home the next morning.

total 120Kms with 2250m (7400 ft) elevation.

A friend of mine is heading to Switzerland in late September. He is visiting his son who married a local recently. They are planning to do a couple of days of riding and camping. I set him up on one of my bikes and other cycling gear, so he can start riding more consistently and building up his mileage and stamina. He has invited me to come along, too bad i have family commitments and duties so that would have to wait.

Very nice. We cycled that same region a few years ago and your pictures bring back some great memories.
