OT: So I test drove a Tesla Model S today...

It was like being in a space ship
at warp speed
carving corners like I was on rails.

Unbelievable!

Immediate torque.

I even went from Lawrence on the DVP on autopilot to Don Mills North exit. A bit freaky to keep my hands and feet off the controls. I did signal a right lane change and the car did the rest.

I ws going pretty tame but my friend really gunned it. We got tossed around in the back but the car never felt like it was on the limit.

This was just for kicks but now I'm seriously considering a model 3 to replace the Impreza lemon.

It can easily fit two bikes with the seats down. Wheels off of course.

There is some sort of a smaller Tesla driving around here. First saw it two weeks ago, I see it now numerous times every day.

4 door, looks like a smallish cross over type vehicle. Sort of a royal blue colour.

No idea what it is, has the Tesla logo but other than that - no idea.

Fancy motor can't change the laws of physics, when it come to tire traction.

Friend of mine let me go out for a drive in his S. Encouraged me to put it in 'Ludicrous' mode... then starting from a dead stop, floor it.

Had to let up due to intense, immediate dizziness. Says he's given several folks test drives, and that's a common reaction.

Quite an experience, never had that happen driving a car before.

No matter the car, brand or motor type- "stupid (inept, testosterone infused, driver) is as stupid (inept, testosterone infused, driver) does".

Yah despite all the magic that car weighs about 2 tons so it can't exactly handle/corner as well as people seem to think. Low CG helps I guess too but does it really feel OK even in quick side to side transitions?

Just to make a sweeping generalization, the worst cars I'm buzzed by when out on rides:

1) BMWs
2) Teslas
3) Priuses

No clue what's wrong with the latter two. The jerkishness of BMW drivers is long established at this point.

Yeh, that kinda pissed me off. I drive a CRX with a turbo and NOS to eliminate turbo lag, but it still doesn't have the throttle response of a Tesla. I retarded the cam timing to move all of the torque to the low end of the curve, but it required a new method of driving. When pulling away from a stop, look both ways, then put your head back against the headrest before letting off the clutch...

Bottom line is that the Tesla is just too heavy. I'm looking at the Ariel Nomad as my next car...

Just stereotyping but the Prius drivers resent that our bicycles are even cleaner than their cars.

I can't say I've ever been buzzed by a Tesla but I can agree with the BMW and Prius stereotypes. There aren't enough Teslas here to know.. I see a Model S almost every day but not enough of them to have much bike experience with how their drivers are behaving. They mostly seem to be owned by older folks here which probably explains a lot..

I think Prius drivers think they're saving the world, while bicycles just get in their way. Hybrid cars are creating a smug problem...
