How many bikes since you bought your "forever bike"?
I just used "forever bike" in a sentence and I'm curious how many bikes people have purchased since they declared a new bike to be a "forever bike."
Also curious how long it took before you bought the next one, and have you declared more than one bike to be your "forever bike?" |

So far it's been 3. All of them have been decent used bikes that were silly good deals. Do I need them... NOPE.

Doesn't one need to sample countless bikes so that they know what's required in a 'forever' bike design?

I've never called any of my bikes my 'forever bike', but it took over 40 of 'em to get to the one I currently have and it's easily the one I like the most out of them all.

Well considering my No22 Reactor (I hope I have it forever) was my third bike purchase, and I've picked up 6 others since then (with some also leaving), I think I've done alright.
I also never intended the Reactor to be my sole bike, it was always going to be one of 3 (No22, Race bike, Allroad/Gravel bike), but that quickly became 4 once we got team Fabricas while my Bedford was already on order. It was about a year after ordering the No22, and riding it for 6 months (I let it hang for a long time before building since it was delivered in December), that I started thinking about and planning my next custom (Race bike) to replace the stock Trek Emonda ALR that I was racing. I'd say that I have 2, maybe 3 forever bikes right now between the No22, the KBedford, and the Fabrica. I go back and forth between whether I'd ever sell the Fabrica, as it's unique but may be the easiest to replicate in steel. Or I'd think to sell the Bedford and keep the Fabrica, but I love the paint, the ride, and what Kelly does when putting together bikes... Maybe if I pick up a Kirk I'll reconsider if one of them goes. |

forever bike is a bike you keep forever.. not meant to be confused with last bike or best bike or recent bike or any other kind of bike.

It depends on how you define "forever bike." If forever bike means that you will never buy another bike, most of us are lying through our teeth. If "forever bike" means this is the bike that will not leave while others may come and go, that is a different story.

My forever bike is a 1968 Raleigh Sport three speed that I got when I was eight. It continues to hang from a peg in the basement. Lota, lota lota miles on that thing. I'll have it forever.

This kind of monotheism is heretical to my way of thinking. If you are one of those "quiver killer" advocates, get off my lawn. At least until I have to fit my bikes into a Spanish apartment.

Lots, since I bought my forever road bike. But they don't count because they were all different types of bikes (26" basket bike, rando/adventure, ebike, etc).

My forever bike is my CSI
Have purchased two bikes since.... Bought a (used) Legend a year later so I would not feel hesitant about riding in the rain... Purchased (used) Seven 622 SLX last fall cuz I wanted to see what the carbon tubes, carbon wheels and wide tires fads were all about.... I suppose in another 15 years I might check out disk brakes on a road bike.
