Something new from Ritchey

New Ritchey rando bike featured in a photo set on the Radavist this morning: the Montebello



Looks like a higher stack version of the Road Logic, but there might be other changes (new fork, new offset?).

Should be launching tomorrow. Profile/geometry and some design elements (fender mounts, tire clearance) seem very similar to the Soma Smoothie HP I just built up.

That looks like the Outback fork, but if they're serious about putting a rando rack on the anything cage bosses, they must have changed it. The outback fork is rated for max 3kg on those bosses.

To me it looks like an Outback without the long chainstays, but I'm curious about the ratings on the bosses and the tire clearance, which will need to be pretty close to the Outback to accommodate those fenders. I like the paint.

An Outback with shorter chainstays, or a Swiss Cross with fender mounts. Doesn't seem like huge differentiation from their current offerings, but probably a relatively low-cost addition.

It fits between the Road Logic and the Swiss Cross, per Ritchey, and I guess the Outback is somewhere past the Swiss Cross on a line with road at one end and dirt at the other? I’m interested to see the details but I’ve always been a sucker for niche bikes that I don’t need.

I do hope it has a higher stack than the usual Ritchey frame but not holding out much hope. It looks really quite nice in that red.

Swiss Cross is available in a XXL, FWIW. Should at least fit well for someone up to 6'5" with the right components. I think it's the "biggest" bike they currently make.

Outback and Ascent do top out at about 6'3". I'm at 6'2" and on the upper end of comfortable range on the XL Outback.

+1 on both counts. Stack/reach ratio and front rack-ability are two reasons I haven't tried a Ritchey yet.

Yeah I've seen the XXL swiss cross but feel like that's a bit of creative license in the naming, it's barely any different to my 59cm '15 Road Logic.

Hoping for maybe another cm of stack at least and corresponding shortening of the reach., that would be nice for a rando/all rounder. Then I could be very tempted, I've been looking for an excuse to get another ritchey for a while now.

I'm 6'5" and the reach of the XXL is 3cm too short, they should size it as an XXL-T-Rex.

Terrible rack and front fender set up. It is hard to get these kinds of bikes right. With some more care in the build this could make a nice bike.

Would it be hard to put a steel fork on there? I am not familiar with the Ritchey integrated headsets.

The Ritchey forks on the Outback, Road Logic Disc, and Swiss Cross - and I strongly suspect this bike - have an integrated 45 degree crown race.

I think as long as your steel fork has a 1 1/8" straight steerer and can accept a 45 degree crown race that you supply, it would work just fine.
