Correct. XT medium cage mated to a Microshift bar end shifter. Cassette is a Sunrace CSMX8 11-46. Use these quite often. I prefer these mostly because of their gearing versus the Shimano or other brands. Sunrace has a 40 to 46 tooth jump where the others go 37 to 46. Plus these are one of the lightest and available in silver or black. Usually pick up off eBay since they are less available from online vendors.

Cheers, appreciate that. I agree I think the Sunrace cassettes have better gear progressions, though I've been reluctant to take the plunge as unsure about shift quality

Seeing that this thread is now 10 years old, I spent a few minutes reviewing the first few pages. (Including post #2 from Bruce Gordon). It was a fun look back at how we used to look at gravel bikes and the fact that they were often times cobble together with very satisfactory results.

This thread has been buried for too long! This was my set up for The Black Fly Challenge yesterday. I'd say it worked pretty well for its intended purpose!

It is a new build. I picked up the frameset from the House.com when they were closing threw some bits I had around at it and then grabbed the remaining stuff from the local bike shop. It was pretty great for the Black Fly!
