Get a Colnago C60 from Maestro UK, ($4300) shop the forum for used components ($1000 probably gets top tier gruppo). Same for some solid used carbon wheels or buy some Campy Shamals from a Euro shop and your in the 6K neighborhood, flashy and probably lighter.

An Appleman frameset is exactly $6k. https://www.applemanbicycles.com/bikes/gravel/

Transfer the parts from the RSL.

Send the Moots back, refinish, shave off cable guides and go eTap! Then with the extra cash, put it toward an ingamba trip!

A custom Zullo Inquobo with chorus 11sp. Not sure if it would bust the budget, maybe just by a little if it did.

I'm going to amend my choice to a Kona Big Honzo and some new riding gear (let's say $2500) strapped to $3500 worth of a rental RV. Destination: great trails on the West Coast.

That's not to say that $6k won't get you a good bike. On the contrary, you could get an awesome SuperSix Evo with a good groupset and wheels for the price and it will be fantastic. But, the only way you're getting flashy for $6K is to go used on everything. I think my Crumpton build was around $6K with $2k for the used frameset, $1200 for new Bora 35s, $1200 for 9150 shift group (thanks Merlin), $500 for SISL2 probably another $1k for cockpit, brakes, seatpost and saddle. That was a pretty flashy bike but I had to find some great deals to get the cost down there.

BTW, there's no reason your Vamoots can't be light. My Litespeed T3 frame is around the same weight as your frame and my bike is currently sitting at like 13.2 lbs with 9100 shift group and brakes (...and Lightweights and a handful of boutique parts).

Edit, I forgot pics as evidence of flashiness:

Ryan, your bikes are always spot on, but this Crumpton was my favorite. To bad it did not work out for you.

I'm a value guy and I see no value in buying new, especially if you plan to USE the thing.

There are SO many top shelf bikes, frames and parts that barely get used, then get sold for 50-80% less than new.

Find stuff that gets you excited, buy it and enjoy it. When its no longer fun sell it, recoup your money and do it again.

Haven'd read the whole thread but I did see you want a lighter bike. How about S-Works Tarmac Ultralight Frameset for $4750 and swap over your components? Otherwise I'd suggest the Tarmac Pro. I get it if you want something 'boutique'; I'd rather find a good shop and with good after-sales service. Also I'd want a bike I would ride without worry instead of a garage queen. Good luck with your search.
