ottrott the goat: does it need a bath...?

this is a just a 'take it like it is' shot with the ottrott st...
sitting in my office,
taking a breather,
resting by my mahogony big yankee rollers.
i wear the helmet while riding...
the goat just serves as my gear sherpa between rides...
so,

1) do i give it a bath now
or
2) get it plenty dirty before the snow flies...

Oh my...an Ottrott beater!

It must have been a nasty, muddy day. Get busy cleaning. It'll ride better.

Bucket of warm water and two drops of Dawn liquid soap and one big sponge. 5 mins. It will drip dry. Clean it babe. Good to see the bike getting used by a rider who ain't a weather woosie!!!

PS - I must have something you want. Looking at those rollers reminds me of days gone by roller racing, they are just wonderful.

cleaner = faster

I've been told a cleaner bike is a faster bike, but maybe that is just intimidation working.

after 30k and a second rebuild: sram is on the ram!

the project is complete:
you've seen the csi with the campy record from the ottrott.
now the ottrott has been rebuilt again.
this time with sram red, new mavic wheels and a deda bar/stem.
the only thing left is the test ride.
--still a little too much ice out there
and snow is in the forecast again for tomorrow--
...oh, yes...too tall...espresso tubulars...
the winter bike projects are now complete
and yet i found myself cross country skiing on ice tracks today.
...not that i'm complaining...i just can't wait to get out for a spin!

Good wife

Those are so cool, I almost want to ride rollers again. But, no, it was another beautiful day here.

Nice!

Great Build Spiderman... Cenna must have had a blast picking parts for that thing.

Love the bar ends and wheels. What kind of cages are those?

I'm afraid to ask what it weighs, even if it is wearing a brooks
I can't wait to take my usual place behind it trying to keep up. That thing probably won't even move enough air to draft.

PS - for the record, I kind of think it looks better with dirt on it. Something about a clean goat that just doesn't look right. Pristine for sure, but anxious to wear road grime again.

you're right clydesdale--

--cenna did have fun putting the goat back together again.
i think he's going with the same basic build for his ottrott.
the cages are dimension woodgrain, i think.
the weight as pictured was 16.1#.
i'm regretting the fact i chose the fixie for commuting today.
maybe the maiden voyage will have to wait for a ride
with you on your new crown ***el...

not to be rude, but your saddle looks a bit in need of tightening.

hows the red treating you?

to be honest

i tightened up the brooks mid season last year
and it needed to 'go back'.
i haven't ridden it yet this season
but at the end of last
the fit was pefect.
can't wait to try the red.
this week is supposed to be in the 40's,
so i'm thinking even after work today
the red will shed it's newness
and i'll break it in!
hopefully more to come later...

balmy test ride

last time i rode, the wind chill
was less than 20 below zero
so tonight after work it felt balmy at 34 degrees.
the roads were wet in spots as the snowpack
here is finally melting.
yet there are huge drifts
that really impressed me as i biked past them today.
i took the ottrott out for a spin
mostly because just as i was leaving the office
i got a text from clydesdale asking me if i had been out yet.
i had just enough time to take the 16 mile ride around the lake.
i can't decide if i have just become used to
the 35mm studded snow tires on the uniscasi
but the freedom of the refurbished ottrott was stunning...
more nimble, more responsive...effortless...
the shifting on the sram red
is very intuitive.
even though i am not in great riding shape right now
it was as fun getting around the lake tonight
as when it is midseason and i feel fit and strong...
the bike is more bike than i deserve.
it's so fun to ride it's almost embarrassing!
here are a couple shots after the ride
just to show a little snow and mud
and bring us back to the original question.
--to clean or not to clean--
...but instead of cleaning it before bed,
i am writing to you!
