The look of an integrated headset on a steel bike is definitely growing on me. This bike looks badass!

Jimbo,
The wheels aren't mine, they are stand-ins for the photo shoot.
I have a set of Shamal Ultra dark label and a set of Reynolds Attack/Assault that
will be used here.
The ENVE do look great though.

The bike showed up yesterday in a bomb proof bike shipper.
I tore it open like a kid on Christmas morning.
After 20 minutes, a little torquing, and some grease applied to the seat post and pedals I was able to get in a short ride this morning.
From what I can tell in a very brief ride this bike is all business.
It's stiff and it accelerates great. The handling is precise and the fit feels spot on.
The finish has to be seen in person to really be appreciated, it's gorgeous.
Full shakedown ride planned for this weekend so I will post more intel here.
Thanks. Here's a crappy phone pic.

Shakedown weekend complete.
This bike has really redefined the way I thought a steel road bike should ride.
It does everything and more.
It rides incredibly light and is very reactive and handles with almost surgical precision.
Steve describes it as burly on the web site but I don't get the same impression.
It's big and nasty but it somehow manages to be very stiff but not harsh at all.
The bike has a very nice immediacy that feels a lot like my aluminum Zanc.
Imagine the nastiness of an aluminum race bike with just a little steel smoothness to round it out.
The fit and ride quality are spot on. I am pretty much blown away by this thing.
The finish is incredible and really needs to be seen in person to be appreciated.
Here's a picture without all of the crazy instagram filters applied.

Ride report

So I managed to run the bike through the paces over the last 2 weeks.
I am very pleased with the performance and the ride quality.
It's stiff and nasty as requested.

I did a few long days last weekend with the Shamals mounted and the bike was smooth and very responsive. It has all of the immediacy of my aluminum Zanc but has a nice lively quality as well. The handling is all race bike. Surgically precise but never twitchy.

This past weekend I set it up with the deep Reynolds 66/46 setup with a 11-21 cassette. Pretty much a crit setup. We hit it pretty hard on Saturday and the bike more than held it's own against some expensive carbon race bikes. Violent accelerations and sprints are where it really comes alive and it seems that the faster we went the more the bike came alive. The Reynolds wheels are very stiff and brutally unforgiving so I was a little roughed up after a 60 mile solo effort yesterday. But my legs were a little cooked from the previous day.
I'm going with a more sensible 11-25 cassette and going to adjust tire pressure a little but all in all the bike delivered big time.

Some pics with aero wheels.
