Mid-70s Richard Sachs with Campy!

Picked up this Richard Sachs with era-appropriate parts on Craigslist a while back and thought I would share! The previous owner had the bike in storage for who knows how long. Picked up NOS brake hoods and NOS yellow Benotto tape, polished up some of the silver bits as needed and it was ready to go.

Frameset is 51cm and according to Mr. Sachs it was a team-issue bike built in the mid 70s and is roughly the 290th frame he made under his name. For a bike that is 40 years old it is in really good shape --- it rides well and the only noticeable blemishes are occasional paint chips here and there.

Derailleurs, brakes, brake levers, shifters, seatpost, headset skewers and pedals are all Campy (mostly Nuovo Record), bars are Cinelli, cranks are Stronglights. Wheels are Wienmann rims laced to vintage Phil Wood hubs (!!!) and they spin like absolute champs. Tires are NOS Vittoria Flash M's. Saddle is a vintage Brooks Professional. The cherry on top is the matching vintage Silca Impero frame pump with Campagnolo pump head.

All in all I love how it looks despite it probably being too small for me. I am holding onto it for now (I am an artist and will be using the bike as inspiration for some upcoming projects) but I will be listing it for sale hopefully in the spring so if anyone is interested in it let me know.

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Interesting story about it being a muse for your art.

Thanks!

The art inspiration comes naturally when the subject matter is a piece of art in and of itself

That is a nice, classic bicycle. Richard always had an affinity for low bottom brackets, and long-ish chain stays. It is a good affinity.

I also like the eclectic component menu: Stronglight, Phil, Campag. We did a lot of that back in the day.
