My kid researched until he was blue in the face and wound up with a Steelcase Leap. It was a lot cheaper than an Aeron, which he wanted at first, but since purchase he says it meets his every expectation.

Add me to the Aeron chorus! I'm a shrink and sitting in front of a computer all day on Zoom was a new phenomenon after years of in-person sessions in the office. Already had an Aeron chair in front of my computer at home, but over the 16 months before I returned to my office (where I've sat in an Ekorned Stressless chair for the last 25 years) it was fantastic for eight hours at a time with no back issues at all.

I’ve got a Herman Miller Sayl and it’s fantastic: plenty comfortable, cheaper than the Aeron, and much more attractive. Just don’t get the cheapest model that doesn’t offer any of the adjustable features.

But that sure isn't setting the bar very high.

IMO they're both "aesthetically challenged."

Oh, Louis: It’s about how one feels in the chair, not how the chair looks.

Unless you happen to be sitting on one of these...

TLDR. Steelcase Leap chairs dirt cheap when offices are sold off. I bought a new leather one for $150. I have prolly bought 40 of these over the years. Easy to move around highly maneuverable.

I got a cheap used Steelcase Leap v1 from an office liquidation store to work from home and it is about 20 years old. It surprised me how solid it is after such a long use.

Leap

Had an HM Aeron at work during the dot com era. New job (2002-2011) had the Leap (maybe v1?). I liked the Aeron better than the Leap. More recently I picked up a couple of used HM Equas (probably from the late '80s?) for free and loved them until I started having back issues (lumbar arthritis).

Since the start of the pandemic I've been using a standing desk but always on the hunt for a super tall stool. I modified an IKEA Franklin stool by adding a 5" riser, but it's a bit rickety.

Actually, a rock hard flat bottom cold steel chair would be less expensive and healthier for you (it would incent you to get off it!)

...the best recommendation for a chair is to not use it very much...standing much of the day is better for your back and circulatory health!
