But the current admin says inflation totally in check, no such thing.

Sure, and I have a nice bridge in Brooklyn I'd sell ya.

But when it comes to specific drive trains I believe there will be certain brands/components that are going to become more and more sought after for all the reasons listed, feel, ease of use, maintenance, etc. For example, the prices that discontinued SRAM Etap components are getting.

This just showed up on the local CL:

https://annarbor.craigslist.org/bop/...327627658.html

$700
make / manufacturer: Campagnolo Record
I have 4 Campagnolo Record Ergopower drivetrain components available to the discerning rider.

1: Record 9/10-spd. clamp-on front derailleur (silver)
2: Record 10-spd. rear derailleur (silver)
3: Record 10-spd shifter/brakeset (silver)
4: Record 53/39 crankset (172.5 crank arm length) [picture shows 'Chorus' boxing, but is a Record]

These components are used but in very good condition and have been meticulously cared for during their use

I do wish my beloved Campagnolo had made corporate decision to "hold the line" at 10-speed kit...and just continue to improve/evolve it.

You mean to tell me that inflation is causing prices to rise? Who could have seen this coming?

It's the law of supply and demand. Politics has nothing to do with it, and econometric policies take a long time to have an impact.

Lets leave the political crap off, please?

Matt, inflation is not causing prices to rise.

Rising prices is the *definition* of inflation. Inflation is not a separate, independent fource. Supply and demand is causing (some) prices to rise.

but is it inflation? i do think for the stuff we are talking about it is emotionally driven irrational purchases driving the prices up. the price of a gallon of milk, a box of cheerios or pair of sneakers doesnt seem to have gone up, just the niche stuff that people seem to need to have?

And rising energy costs are the single biggest driver...probably due to geopolitical instability in the mideast, and maybe in part due to the ****up in Texas a couple of months ago.

I have been singing the praises of Campy 10s for YEARS. I have it on all of my road bikes. I just pulled Record 12s off of my Dogma to put 10s on it instead.

When I went to eBay to look for a 10s NOS Record cassette in my beloved 13-29t, there was only one and they want $480 for it!

The great thing is that you can get Veloce and Centaur 10s cassettes BRAND NEW online from shops - Campagnolo is still making these!

So I just ordered 3 new Veloce 13-29t cassettes.

If I ever get fit again I have a NOS 13-29t full ti Record cassette I can put on the bike for hard hill climb efforts.

on the used car market it is not inflation, maybe a tiny bit but used cars are up 20% +

It is because of the microchip shortage, its is hard and there are a lot of delays making new cars so the used car market is popping.

Prior admin too, so my statement was nonpartisan!

Cheap money and unlimited balance sheet has consequences.

Side comment: There never was a full titanium Record 13-29 10spd cassette. But you can make one by replacing the the steel sprockets of a Record 13-29 10spd cassette with the titanium sprockets of a full titanium Record 11-23 10spd cassette.

And, to stock parts for that kit so that it was actually as rebuildable as claimed. No parts available for 10 speed Ergos during a normal year, "just because," caused me to move on ...
