Wanted to post about this for a long time and Zee's response in the black friday thread got the ball rolling. What type of medical stuff are you carrying on rides? I currently carry QuikClot but have been thinking about getting an israeli style compression bandage to keep with me - would appreciate some recommendations for something really small.

Whoa, this is interesting. I must admit, I don't carry anything medic-related!

might be adding that bike med kit to a few lists for this year.

thanks for posting

I usually carry this https://www.adventuremedicalkits.com...ertight-5.html

I add a baggie of ibuprofen, a tube of antibiotic(it has those but those are the things I use most), a small knife and a maxipad/panty-liner.

Build your own Altoids first aid kit.

https://www.instructables.com/Pocket-First-Aid-Kit/

That's what I did. I have one each in my bike bag, gym bag, car bag and hiking back pack. They are really kind of fun to put together and make you think about your potential first aid needs in different scenarios.

That's kinda cute. I hate to break the news to the writer, but a rubber band doesn't make a good tourniquet.

Right?! I had to do a double take. So what’s everyone doing about sound compression?

I keep a rescue blanket/bivy strapped to my mtb frame. I broke a femur in the winter and had to be rescued out of the woods so I learned from that. Also carry basic first aid supplies. Also a BIC lighter.

Too stretchy and will cut vs compress. Webbing or a belt is much better.

Oof, sorry you had to learn that!

Depending on what kind of blanket/bivvy you carry you may have to replace it from time to time as some of them break down over time (ask me how I know).

As part of our Mountain rescue medical team I have a whole array of medical kits.

I've carried everything from an Altoids style kit to a full on large hip pack medical kit. For road biking I've found that the minimalist bandaids/antibiotic ointment/tape etc I almost never use and everything expires before I use it. An Israeli bandage is quick and convenient and I've used it on one mission and it worked well. It's a pretty bulky item to carry unless you are Mtn biking with a group.
The only way to use a tourniquet is to have a commercially made one like this https://www.narescue.com/combat-appl...uet-c-a-t.html.
I carry two on missions. Tourniquets are really, really painful when properly applied-they aren't for the feint of heart to apply but can save a life when they are needed.

For road biking I'd carry just some Tylenol/aspirin/ibuprofen-your choice along with a cell phone and your normal tool kit.

For Mtn biking, especially if you are aloneI'd carry some gauze 4 by 4's, duct tape/emergency blanket/ pain meds/ possibly a tourniquet /cell phone or some way to contact emergency services like an inReach mini. You can add what you want, an Israeli bandage is usually in my pack.

When I'm hiking/ mtn biking/ cross country skiing I have a very extensive kit when I'm alone or with friends.

The most important thing you can do is use your common sense and to let someone know where you are going and when you'll be back.
