1x still costing results

Last year it was Aqua Blue: https://road.cc/content/tech-news/24...-talking-about

Now John Degenkolb with Trek-Segafredo: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/mech...ilan-san-remo/

I'd think that Trek-Segafredo couldn't afford to have any worse results.

You can't say whether the mechanical was inherent in the 1x design or its maintenance/installation. One data point is not enough.

FYI: I'm not a fan of 1x.

For road racing, I don't understand what problem a 1X drive solves.

That being said, perhaps one day the kinks will be worked out and it will be more viable. Again, to me it appears to try and solve some problem that doesn't exit or isn't impactful enough to matter.

I ride etap 1x11 and I’ve never dropped a chain. Before that I rode 1x11 Force mechanical for 2 years with zero issues. I don’t even understand how you drop a chain on 1X on the descent. With that said, why even chance it? Was Degenkolb trying to prove something by riding 1X? Did SRAM write him a fat check for product testing 1x12 during a monument? He’s going to catch a bunch of “I told you so” from the peloton and he deserves it.

Roubaix will be a good test of SRAM AXS, if they go with 1X

Since there’s no front shifting and the road is smooth, how do you drop a chain on 1by?

And for right above, a good test or a disaster...

haha, at least with 2x if you drop a chain, you can have the few seconds of hope fiddling with the FD hoping it'll drag your chain back to the program. with 1x.....wha wha wha. you're stopping and getting your fingers dirty.

I remember in Le Tour a few years back when David Miller or his manager thought it would be a good idea to ride the Prologue (or maybe it was the ITT, but I think it was Prologue) without a front derailleur and he dropped his chain while leading at the split.

And to DM's credit, he took full responsibility for that mistake in his book.

Is there really smooth roads in a bike race?
