When one will do the same for half and less than half and perform just as well…

True. I find my Kask Protone (retail $299) fits me better than any other helmet I've tried. When it comes to my head and feet I dont look at the price, only fit. Plus its not like you buy a new helmet / shoes every year.

Your argument could be used for anything bike related. $6K frames? Ridiculous when a $1500 frame will do the job .......

I have two of the non-carbon and one of the carbon. They're really, really nice.

My hesitation with ordering from the UK is it could be really expensive if I have to return it. Also helmets sold in Europe have to meet EN1078 but in the US they have to meet CPSC which is more stringent. The result is helmets sold in Europe can be lighter in weight but less protective. I have seen the Trenta on some US websites that say they meet CPSC but nobody has them in stock and price is quite a bit higher at $379.

I noticed that both new helmets weigh 260g in medium EU standard but 290g for CPSC.

I bought a Prevail II a few weeks ago. It's the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. Seems this might be a good time to find one on closeout.

I wouldn’t buy the 6k frame either

Some seem to think they are buying more safety with a more expensive helmet…

Fun to dig up threads when I end up with the product I said I’d never have…

I went to the lbs yesterday to pickup a gift and left with that and a $300 helmet.

Upon entering, I could see it across the store. The s-works prevail 3 in white size medium (my size) was resting on a shelf, below it the same model bright red in large.

It looks nice in both colors, noticeably smaller than my POC Octal. I tried the white one on.

It fit like a glove with a few twists in the back with zero pressure points and the straps perfectly placed right below my ears. I slid my glasses on and the arms were nowhere near any part of the helmet.

Sold.

I finally look like a pro in the TDF. No more mushroom head!

An odd sensation, the helmet feels like it has less resistance while riding at higher speeds. Like it goes through the wind cleaner. It also has superior ventilation to my poc octal.

I will have to try one on. I wore my Prevail a lot the last 2 weeks and was thinking it doesn't necessarily match the shape of my head as well as it should. It's very comfortable, but it feels like there are bigger gaps in some areas than I might hope for.

To my eyes it is slightly longer and narrower than the poc and the fit feels it.

It weighs 292g, about 40g heavier than the octal same size. The octal isn’t MIPS.

Thanks for the pictures! The POC Ventral is a bit more snug than the Octal so I'll definitely see how this fits. I love the larger holes but being more sun conscious these days, I feel like my head is going to burn without a hat lol.
