Disc wheel build question

New to this disc thing. I have options on hubs, 6 bolt or CL.
I like the idea of 6 bolt as it is one solid piece but think warpage could be an issue. With CL it seems like less chance to warp but 2 parts instead of one.
Will be on an allroad/ gravel but it shouldn't see much heavy breaking.
Price is the same. What way would you go?

Centerlock if only because you can convert them to use 6 bolt rotors using an adapter, while you cannot convert the other way

Also if you're a WW centerlock hubs tend to way a decent amount less. And mounting rotors is MUCH quicker although road/trailside repairs aren't as easy.

Admittedly, I've never owned CL hubs. I'm not a weight weenie, so I just buy 6 bolt hubs when I build wheels.

Having owned both, I find centerlock hubs to be far superior!

Would you rather tighten 6 bolts or one?

I've finally come around to Centerlocks, and honestly I don't think I'd build another 6 bolt Wheelset if I didn't have to. Must easier/quicker to deal with.

Plus Wolf Tooth makes colored lock rings, and well I'm a sucker for anodized parts.

Even Campagnolo has come around to center locks (AFS). That's saying something...

I just picked up my first set of centerlock wheels. I currently ride 160mm 6bolt avids.

Can someone recommend a CL rotor that is reasonably priced? Going on a cross/gravel/road bike/climbing bike.

Ultegra rotors look interesting because of the cooling fins.

FWIW - I have had issues with high end Shimano rotors (DA, XT) warping temporarily under hard braking on long step downhills. Just before I went on my 4 day VT trip a couple of weeks ago, I swapped in Swiss Stop Catalyst Pro rotors, which weigh an ounce+ more per rotor but don't warp.

CL all day every day!
If you have 6 bolt rotors that are still good, you can buy an adapter that holds your 6 bolt rotor on a CL hub. Slightly more faff than mounting CL rotors.

I used the adapters in the early days of pandemic shortages when you couldn’t find a mid level and above Shimano CL rotor anywhere. No issues at all

I have had success with just the basic level Sram centerlock rotors. They are around $30-$40 most of the time and I have had zero issues with them! I have 105 level rotors on my road bike and they seem decent as well.

I just discovered hope rotors and love the bling! Purple anodized would look pretty pimp. They are pricey though.

I was thinking about going the 6bolt adapter route as well.... will simmer a bit for a few more days.

I have had this same warping problem. Thanks for the tip on the SwissStop rotors!
