Mountain Bike Bottle Cages - what is appropriate?
Another first world problem.
I bought this frame on the forum here and built it back up similarly, with full XTR. Lovely ride, I am more of a roady and more of a MTB poseur…. What bottle cages would be befitting on this dark gunmetal grey metallic fleck Rock Lobster and King mango everything? I am out of touch, LOL…. Function first, but coolness too thanks! I tried some Campagnolo carbon, looked a bit weird but almost ok, then some Nitto stainless, looked weirder…. I am so vain….. https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/2729819/ Hope everyone enjoys LeTour and stays upright…. Cheers |

King or Silca Ti cages look good on everything.

Get a Camalbak or a similar pack to carry a hydration bladder. Bottle cages are for roadies.

Arundel mandible, they go with everything. Plus they have a death grip, never lost a bottle

I just bought a couple of Tacx Deva bottle cages for the Spesh FatBoy and my LiteSpeed Blue Ridge. Myriad of color options and not nearly as expensive as carbon. They will supplement my Nathan hydration vest.

Elite Ciussi for me. Holds bottles very well.

I've used Bontrgare Pro cages on my mountain bikes for years without problem. Carbon fiber, available in around 10 colors, hold bottles well.
Plain ti always looks nice, as noted above. Silca makes one with slotted mounts, so you can adjust the position a bit - useful if the frame doesn't otherwise allow a tall bottle because of the sloped DT. Hydration packs are great for long/hot rides, but even then, I like to keep water in the pack and mix in a bottle or two. And just bottles is fine for short local rides. |

King Ti cages are my fav. Not because they're light (although it doesn't hurt), it's because I've never lost a bottle out of one. Gravel, MTB and road.

A real mountain bike doesn't even have water bottle mounts.

That's what Toby Stanton said to me, regarding cyclocross bikes, when he was getting ready to build my frame. I talked him into including two sets of bosses. My other 'cross bikes all have them, except for the unicorn Master CX.
