Oh I’d love to go riding there. We just may also stay up there instead of Denver and just venture into the city a day or two.

In Boulder, you’ll want a road bike.

Not surprising really. But it's a nice 1/2 day trip in any event. As long as it isn't 112 degrees.

Grew up outside Denver.
1. Go see a concert at Red Rocks. One of the best places to see someone live.
2. If Casa Bonita was reopened I’d say check it out. Go watch South Park. Matt and Trey own it now and are redoing it.
3. Go see a ball game at Coors Field. Great place to watch baseball.
4. Take a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Beautiful
5. Head to Golden for pizza snd beer

I lived close to Red Rocks as a kid and had a great Red Rocks loop. Up Morrison road to Morrison up the back side of the hog back over down past heritage square down into Golden back east down the frontage road to Lakewood where I lived. Miss that ride.

1. Deer Creek Canyon Loop (various Denver paths should connect you to it)
2. Lookout Mountain from Golden (can create a loop around Red Rocks)
3. Mt Evans if you want a huge climb; or "just" up to Echo Lake via Squaw Pass (starting in Evergreen), or Juniper Pass (starting in Idaho Springs).

On altitude, if you have a PM you'll notice your perceived exertion will be higher at a lower given wattage(~25-30watts difference). Definitely take it easy and don't go into the red but you should be fine. A HR monitor is helpful with that and I would at least take that if no PM on bike.
