Squirt on hot waxed chains
I've read that Squirt can be used as a "top off" for hot waxed chains between waxing intervals. I'm assuming that means I can use Squirt between hot chain wax intervals WITHOUT having to go through the whole initial process of degreasing and striping the chain clean again when I do another hot wax. Correct? I'm looking for a way to keep the chain lubricated on trips without having to take my slow cooker with me or pack an extra waxed chain.

should work.
I would ask the maker of your wax this question.
FWIW, Silca says their liquid and hot-melt wax play nice together. I dribble just a little Super Secret liquid every few hundred miles and try to rub it 'into' the rollers. Then a full strip at 1000mi or so. There are some who just wipe down their chains and drop them into the hot wax and hope the dirt sinks to the bottom. |

Ceramic Speed used to include a small bottle Squirt with their UFO pre-waxed chains. The instructions say that the wax pre-treatment lasts about 500 Km, after which the squirt can be used as a kind of "refresher" for some additional mileage.

I don't do hot waxing but I've been using Squirt and it keeps my chains clean and they seem to wear noticeably more slowly than when I used the various other lubes I've used. I'm pretty frequent with lubing - the MTB gets it after every ride, the road bikes more like every three rides. Even so, the first 4 oz bottle lasted me 2 years over several bikes - money well worth spending.

It works fine, Squirt is water and slack wax - which is the base part of what makes paraffin wax.

I emailed Speedwax and they said they don't like any kind of drip lube on a waxed chain, but suggested Ceramic Speed UFO drip if I had to.

I cut MSW with regular parrafin wax and will use Squirt once in while if I want to use a chain a bit longer before waxing again. I've found that it works but definitely gums up a bit compared to just wax, kinda like WL.

I also got cheap and mixed in some regular paraffin wax when the MSW I had in the slow cooker was running low. What has your experience been with it? I kinda feel that I'm not getting as many miles with the adulterated formulation.

I use Smoove after I put a newly waxed chain on to add just a bit to the connector link since I usually need to scrape off some wax to fit them to the chain.
I would use it if I needed to lube a chain but didn't have a fresh waxed spare but haven't actually needed to do so yet. |

I don't notice any difference, although I don't add too much plain paraffin, maybe 70/30 MSW/Paraffin.

I have been so happy with chain lubes like Rock n' Roll, White Lightning, etc. for my riding on and off road in SoCal that I can't see why I would mess with hot wax. What am I missing?
