This guy is a national treasure and he's located in Fayetteville. He sells prints and has a studio.

Northwest Arkansas is more part of the Midwest than the American South. Because of that, you risk some of the weather nastiness you see in places like Kansas City, Lawrence, etc. It can get cold and there is some risk of wintry precipitation.

In reviewing the last few years of Fayetteville weather on that specific weekend, it’s a mixed bag. There hasn’t been precipitation on that weekend in a while. It’s been as warm as highs in the mid-50s. But more common is highs in the high 30s. Pretty typical stuff for cyclocross.

In terms of the course, it’s on top of a “mountain” (we use that phrase liberally in Arkansas.) The course has really good drainage and thoughtful use of natural stone (which is consistent with how many of the MTB trails are built here.) Because of that, there’s little risk of it being a mudfest unless it rains cats + dogs for quite awhile beforehand.

At the first CX race on that mountain, we volunteered as course marshalls both days of the race. This was before any improvements to the course were made. The first day was good, but the second day was really raining and I just turned around because I didn't want to get my van stuck in the field they used for parking,

Parking will be at the baseball facility for the Arkansas Razorbacks and shuttles will run all day to the event.

Arkansas has a fully vaccinated rate of approximately 46%, making it one of the few states still in the 40's. Also they voted for Trump in 2020 by 28 points.

I'll not spend my dollars in the state of Arkansas thank you very much. don't care if anyone complains that I'm making a political statement in a bike thread.

IBTL...but 'these days', a lot of people(including me) make buying, spending and traveling decisions based on 'politics'...not uncommon and not unusual.

I don't shop at home depot unless I gotta, either.

Great info, thanks for posting.

Didn't even know it was in North America this year.

Never been there myself. What airport would one (Canadian) be flying into?

You would fly into Northwest Arkansas Regional (XNA.) Please be careful to not fly into Fayetteville, North Carolina by accident! Really hope you can make it

Another vote for Fayetteville an NW Ark in general.

I went to college in the Fayetteville/Springdale/Bentonville area in the very early 90's. I really enjoyed my time there. There's a reason it's called the Natural State. It's beautiful. The Ozaks Mtns (not huge mtns) are fantastic.

I certainly could have lived there permanently. As a "Yankee" (a name I was called numerous time. With real intent. Which was very odd for me), I felt like a bit of a square peg in a round hole. Regardless, I would not hesitate and visit to ride! Also, the West Coast is the best coast.

The riding. A person would not be disappointed! I'd really dig making worlds, but I don't think it's in the cards.

Bumping this thread back to the top.

Any paceliners going to UCI CX Worlds in January? I'm contemplating a drive down in an RV and hopefully finding a Walmart lot to park in, nearby. I figger the Waltons will send out the 'all clear' signal to let them know of the shenanigans going on. I've heard really good things about F'ville and the Arkansas cycling scene lately and am eager to check it out.

I'd really like to go! I went to college in the area and really loved it there.

I may ask the missus...but not holding my breath.
