While cycling in France

I went for a great ride last week and came across a group of antiques, most of which I had never heard of, let alone ever seen. Any of you familiar with a 1923 Zedel open touring? How about a Lorraine-Dietrich? There was a third, whose name I couldn't make out, and a pretty elegant Mercedes. I read somewhere that in 1912, there were something like 140 manufacturers of cars in the US, and this encounter gives me the sense that there were a similar number in Europe. Only a small group of manufacturers have survived.

I saw an Aston DB5 last week at some British car rally that happened in town. It had a thorough coat of patina on it, interior was shot but it was covered in bugs and that made me happy that someone was actually driving it.

Not sure if this qualifies as obscure but I don’t recall seeing one quiet as pristine in a long time….

Spotted in Tribeca yesterday morning….

When petrol cost less than a Kiwi dollar per litre. Back in the day they weren't uncommon down this way.

Spotted at our local breakfast haunt. I think that it belongs to my neighbor who is the "star" of the reality show Junkyard Empire on Motor Trend TV. This is still my favorite version of the Batmobile.

Not a Car but may still qualify.

Spotted the Indian on a bike ride with friends. I think he said it was a 1917 model. He was on a ride from Michigan to Texas as part of a rally. He hit something in the road and bent his front fork. Most likely not an easy repair on a bike this age.
