XTR Pedals inboard dust seal?
I have the latest (I think) version of XTR pedals on my gravel bike. The inboard rubber dust seal keeps migrating out toward the crank arm. I use a pick to push it back into position, but after riding a bit they just migrate back out.
Is this a common problem, or do I need to push them in over a ridge or some other retention mechanism? It's a gravel bike, so the pedals see their share of dust dirt mud and wet; i'd rather not kill bearings prematurely if i can do something about it. I've had shimano pedals forever, including some much lower end models of SPDs and never had this issue.

I wouldn't worry about it. As far as I can tell, XTR clipless pedals all do this, including the XTR Trail pedals. I have one set that I rode for three years with exactly zero (0) maintenance cycles that did it constantly. No issues at all, though after 3 years the bearings had a teensy bit of play - nothing a regular maintenance cycle wouldn't fix.

It's a common issue, some people will wrap two loops of electrical tape on the spindle to stop it, but given that all other pedals work without that seal, it seems extraneous |

Excellent. This was the answer I was hoping for. Dont worry about it
Thank you both.

Is there a external seal on XTR pedals? There appears to be but never experienced this issue with my 5 sets of these.

A thin black zip tie cinched tight also works.

Does the Zip Tie weigh more than the Delta to the XT/whatever version of the pedal?

I always use the Trail version. Function > weight. 😏
