The frustrating thing is that the difference between bliss and a nightmare may be a few degrees of tilt or minor fore/aft adjustment.

I totally agree that setup is as important as equipment. :-) One is useless without the other!

I bought a pair of Boure bibs about 3 years ago. I have to say I was very excited to buy a made in the USA bib. But was very disappointed with its quality. It seemed homemade with the seams exposed. The fabric did not seem to be that good either. I wore them once and ended up throwing them away. Hopefully they improved.

Darn, I had post #26 in the office pool for the first occurrence of "butt-hurt" in this thread, so disappointed.

I am in love with my Ornot bibs right now. They retail at $150, but can be had for less with sales and coupon codes. Nice for hot weather and fine under tights in milder climes.

Great customer service and a (well used by me) crash replacement policy. In terms of fit and comfort, I like them as well as my SAS kit so far, though I don't expect them to be as durable as SAS since they're much lighter, cooler, etc.

I have bought at least one pair. Worked great.

In fact, they got stolen off my patio with a bike!

Danny Shane

I have been rockin Danny Shane kits for the last few years. I have 3 kits and many hours/miles on them and have been satisfied with the quality, padding and fit.The compression is not super tight. I get them on sale for about $130/150.

What's the best VALUE in a bib short?
It depends.

I have developed sores on $200 bibs that have worked great in the past and I have ridden long distance on cheapo bibs (less than $40) that I had to resort to wearing because my more $$ bibs were still in the dirty laundry and it had worked out fine.

I guess my point is: there's no guarantee based simply on $$ or brand.

Much like a saddle, if you find one that works for you, keep using it, it doesn't matter whether it's expensive or cheap, branded or generic....as long as your butt is happy, who cares??

My best luck has been with Assos, Gore, and Giordana bib shorts.
All of these brands need urgent help naming their various "levels" of bibs.
Please make the names intuitive and easy-to-recall a year later.

I love my Bellwether Heritage series bibs I got for $43 on ebay. Retail price is $119. Great chamois and fit. Sold by bikewagon. Check them out.

Boure

More on Boure:
I am a huge fanboy of the company and products.
Except the bibs.
I have multiple jerseys and pairs of socks.
The sun block jerseys get a ton of use. They are great.
So of course I want to love their bibs. But I can’t because there’s something about the seam placement that makes them unwearable for me. I can’t even do my 7.5 mile commute comfortably.
So there’s definitely a sub group of us that have a bad taint-chamois relationship with their bibs.
If they fit you comfortably I have no doubt they are a solid product.

Yes, because I know how to work a washing machine. It's a lost skill, I guess.
