Black Mtn Monster One-By

I know we have a few Black Mtn MonsterCross owners in here, anyone done a one-by setup yet? I have the Rootbeer model with rim brakes and have been thinking about a SRAM one-by setup to replace my current bar-end shifters...

also, would be curious to know how big a tire folks have ran... I currently have the Gordon Rock'nRoads...

Mine is set up 1x right now and it's great. If you have a root beer model 45's are about the biggest tire you can run due to fork clearance. I have the same generation monstercross as you and I ordered one of the newer forks from Black Mountain and now mine comfortably fits 2.1 Thunder Burts front and rear.

With that 2.1, is there any mud clearance?

This is relevant to my interests.

Given my typical use (lots of city riding and some light touring as well as offroad), I've stuck with a double setup so far on my pepto-pink V5 frame - but could be tempted to switch up to 1x if I do decide to squeeze in the 2.1s I'm hearing will fit and do some rougher adventuring...

I would say the mud clearance is less than ideal. I don't worry about rocks or anything jamming the wheel under normal conditions but ideally for mud you might want a bit more room.
I would take a picture to show but that bike is in winter mode with Gravel Kings and fenders at the moment.

I have run 29x2.1 Thunderburts on my pink BMC. The fit fine, although getting them past the brake shoes and chainstay bridge requires partially deflating the tire. I usually run 700x40 Clement MSOs and SKS fenders on that bike.

I occasionally had the chain rubbing on the tire in some gearing combos, so a 1x system is not a bad idea.
