Carbon frames with steel like lugs
Are there any lugged carbon frames out there that have lugs shaped like steel lugs?
All the lugged carbon I've seen just has straight edges - not the curvy/ pointy shapes we usually see on steel. I'm not talking mixed metal/ carbon. I mean all carbon frames. Perhapes not enough surface area for the bonding, but wondering if it has been pulled off at all. Just thinking it would be kind of cool to have a steel-looking carbon frame. |

There’s a NOS Independent Fabrications Corvid DI2 carbon frame on EBay right now with shaped lugs. Really cool.
Sorry I don’t know how to link to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Seven makes a lugged carbon frame that recalls the 1980s Vitus and Alan carbon frames.

Doesn’t Calfee still make lugged CF frames?
Would an old C40:count? |

The seller has bought many of my bikes over the years. Always had good dealings with him, nice guy. This was not one of my bikes but that is awesome frame!

Other than the IF already listed, Calfee lugs have the most style to them of any stock lugged carbon frames.
There just aren't that many operations building lugged carbon frames. If you're specifically looking for something with a little more style than you can find off-the-shelf from Calfee, Colnago, Holland, etc., any tube-to-tube carbon builder could probably build something like that for you, but it would likely come at a significant premium. |

In the late 90s, I admired a red and black Calfee hanging in Ted's. Very reminiscent of lugged steel and not Dragon Flyish. There was a weight limit and I remember being borderline over at 165.

I always thought these Indy Fab XS frames were absolute stunners. I didn't see many of 'em in the flesh, other than the occasional at an LBS that carried 'em. If i recall they were several thousand bucks just for the frame, +/-, which was right up there with the Meivici.
Maybe with some searching you could find used and have it refinished for a great overall price. Last edited by 54ny77; 01-13-2019 at 11:18 AM. |

That would be a KILLER idea for Makers Mark do do a custom bike with that theme at the main lug joints. Anyone here have an in with them? |
