Low spoke count silver hubs
The Kinlin thread got me back to wondering about silver hubs to build an all silver wheelset.
Is there a good set of silver hubs out there that come in a lower hole count? ie 28 and under for the rear and 24 and under for the front? Light weight would be nice too, of course. If loose bearings, something easy to adjust like the Record hubs. Also need a Campy 11 freehub body. |

the only ones i know are miche... those arent loose balls tho... nobody makes loose balls anymore and campagnolo only has black and 32H hubs now a days.
The other option is go with old hubs, I have a campagnolo 20H silver moving around that has loose balls, in rear you might have a problem because those were not made in 10 speed and eventhought you might be able to transplant a 10 speed FHB the problem is to find them. I would just go miche rc2, not expensive, reliable and come in the spoke count you want. But if you want super light stuff you might need to look somewhere else IMO, and double your budget. |

I'm a fan of the bikehubstore.com house brand hubs (made by Bitex):

White Industries and Chris King seem like obvious options.

Yeah, just wondering what other options are available besides the usual players.

If you eliminate silver from the qualities you're looking for: DT Swiss
There's also Industry 9, Paul, Shimano (D/A is sorta silver anyway), and probably a few more I'm forgetting The Bitex hubs are pretty darn good for the $$. I've had some M |

Phil Wood hubs come down to 20 hole hubs. The Pro model is comparable to lightweight hubs by other companies and their silver hubs look like jewelry.

Yes, this is anecdotal, but I would be careful with Tune hubs, especially if you're a big guy. I was in a shop when a guy came in with his FRONT wheel. The front hub was a Tune and part of the flange had snapped off. The hub was basically dead and he was looking at getting another front wheel. Note, this wasn't a big guy - maybe 5'8 or 5'9 and probably no more than 150 to 160lbs, tops. He claims to be "just riding along" and heard something "snap." That was one expensive snap and he wasn't very happy....so caveat emptor with lightweight parts like Tune hubs!

I built up two identical wheelsets over the winter for a friend and myself. We're both big sprinters who race regularly. Kinlin XR31T rims (OC rear) with BHS (Bitex) hubs. 20H front (CX-Rays) and 24H rear (CX-Sprints), brass nipples all around. Weight for my set was 1534 grams. The wheels built up as easily as any I have made and have held up perfectly to the stresses of racing. I would certainly be looking at bikehubstore.com if I was building up a wheelset as described by the OP.

Carbon Ti does the X-Road SP in polished mirror 24/20.
You can find the silver ones in Europe. Lightweight and expensive. |

Mack makes fantastically nice hubs in low spoke counts, whatever colors you want. Campy freehub available.
