Serotta Forks

Thought there was a discussion regarding the max tire size that will fit in a F1 fork ... 25mm

Any F1 fork owners out there that has been able to safely fit a 27mm tire with pre-skeleton Campy brakes?

If I remember correctly, the stock Serotta steel fork will fit a bigger tire than the F1.

My experience with the F1 is that 25mm tires are a tight fit inside that fork, just a very few MMs clearance between the tire, fork kegs and underneath the crown. IMO, much too close for comfort.

My experience was that a 25mm barely cleared the underside of the fork and I think that would always be the critical dimension regardless of brake caliper.

And not all 25mm tires will fit. I have seen many forks with paint wiped away under the crown.

My 25 mm Veloflex on wide rims fit under both my F1 forks with a lot of room to spare on the sides, but I think Veloflexes are a true 25. 27s/28s will definitely not fit due to vertical clearance under the fork, not the brakes. Pic below of my CSI with 25c Veloflex tires and DA 9000 brakes

there is

there is little insert that go into drop outs that lower a wheel
Those might help a bigger tire to fit

Interesting. I don’t think I’ve seen them, not sure how to find them. Can you post a link, please?

F1 Tire Clearance

My comments apply only to Veloflex tubs mounted on GP4 box type rims.

The 25mm will fit but it is a bit tight with the F1 forks. I run 'em any way on 2 Ti Serottas. Forget the 27's.

With the steel fork that came with the '96 Atlanta, 27's fit with plenty of room to spare. Sweet Cadillac ride with those bad boys!

Life is too short to ride clinchers.

With both of my steel forks i can fit 28's easily and depending on the brakes and tire I've thought about trying 30 or 32.

F1 Max Tire Size

Many have shared they were barely able to fit a 25mm tire on a F1 fork. I was able to squeeze a Vitt Corsa Control 28mm tire w/DT R440 rim on the front, actual width is 27.6mm. All should be good for my fav tire ... Vitt Pave CG 27mm (actual 26.5mm) is looking pretty sweet.

Maybe there are different versions of F1 forks

If I could convert the steerer from threaded to threadless
