Campy 11 shifters with an 11 speed MTB RD??

I am converting my wife's cross bike (canti) into a more gravel specific bike. It is currently fitted with Chorus shifters and Athena FD and RD. She wants to be able to run an 11-40 MTB cassette.

Is it possible to make the Chorus shifters work with a Shimano MTB RD?
Also, Are there any hitches to running such a larger cassette on a Eurus rear wheel with a Shimano splined freehub?

From what I read from multiple sources it's impossible to use any campy 11 with shimano 11 road or mtb.

Yes with a Jtek shiftmate ..... appropriate if you use a Shimano 10 speed MTB Shadow and Shadow+ derailleur .

Looks like a Shiftmate 7 assuming Campy 11 and Shimano 11 wheels are interchangeable as many attest.

Shifter and derailleur combinations that we know can’t be made to work with a Shiftmate!

Shifter --- Derailleur --- Cassette type and speed --- Comment
Campagnolo 11 speed --- Shimano 11 road or MTB --- Any 5 to 11 speed --- Can't be done

if it's low end you're looking for, you may have more luck with smaller chainrings than larger cassette cogs...

Yes, I now see the OP specifically mentions an 11 spd Shimano rear in the title. With a Shimano 10 speed MTB Shadow and Shadow+ derailleur he'll be fine.

+1, sounds like you want a triple. Or Shimano or SRAM, of course. GRX is the turnkey solution here.

I was definitely thinking GRX would be the way to go but unless I'm missing something the GRX shifters are hydraulic only?...

Should be able to use any old 11 speed road shifters with the new derailleurs.

Thanks for all the help! I did a quick G----le search for a Shiftmate 7 for sale but I couldn't find any US retailers just some in Europe.

Does anyone know where I can source one in the US?

Thanks again.

Here's their retailers page.

Peter White Cycles stands out if none are local to you.
