True Temper Question
I've never seen this True Temper decal. It's on an early 1990s frame. Can anyone provide information regarding this tubing? Google isn't helpful.
Many thanks. Last edited by 82Picchio; 05-03-2019 at 12:49 PM. |

Here's some information from Strong Frames about tube sets, including OXRCX.
Here's a True Temper Catalog from 1987, which includes specs. on the RCX tube set. Not sure if this is similar to OXRCX. |

Henry James has the spec listed for a few variants of this tube set.

Any chance we can see full frontal of the bike? The BB cluster is a good tease, i want more.

Wasn't there a problem with some of the True Temper tubesets with the seat tubes failing due to being too thin or something?
I do know some of the later Lemonds and Treks used True Temper. I think they shut down the tubing operation side of the business in 2016. |

True temper had problems early on. I thought most people had problems with chain stays. They had a lot of loyal customers at the end, I never heard of anyone having problems with the tubing in more recent times.

I remember having a couple of frames made from True Temper back in the day. the only issue I ever had was breaking a down tube at the upper butt line just below the shifters. It was just a month or two old, made from RC tubing, I think it must have been a defect because I got it replaced with another equivalent True Temper tube and it was fine after that, still have that frame.

OXRCX was an oversized heat treated 4130 tubeset. I built a frame using those tubes and liked it fine. The chain stays were ovalized, but not in the common way for OS stays. They were more like fork blades. Henry James made a special BB shell which had the appropriate sockets. Good stuff.
