Another vote for zondas. Incredible bang for buck. If Shimano I would go for Fulcrum 3s.

Zondas are a great bang for the money. I personally don't care for the looks of the different spoke pattern F and R.

I would still go Zonda - they are available in either flavor. Fulcrum employs a different spoke pattern. I suspect the G3 spoke pattern has some influence in how well the Zondas ride.

After the great Zonda thread here, I purchased a pair on a Black Friday deal. Even though I enjoy building my own wheels, the Zondas fast became my favorite wheels. A very surprising wheel.

Yeh that’s fair too. I just don’t like mixing wheels and groupset manufacturers.

Lots of votes for Zondas, but there is a used set of Eurus in the classifieds for $350+fees. They look sweet, and with an 11 cassette should do great with your Shimano. I came close to grabbing them at $40 more. Even better deal now.

So true, keep getting tempted by these myself. I'm firmly in the Zonda/Fulcrum Racing 3 camp but when I can get some cheap Eurus I'd go for it.

I've got a Shimano set on my Davidson and then a Campagnolo set will most likely be going on my Paletti when it gets built up.

I think Zondas with the steel spokes ride better than the Eurus (Essentially the old Eurus before they changed to aluminum spokes). And at the price from UK you've got enough left over for really nice tires and still under $500.

Handbuilt

I rode Zondas and Neutrons and Protons. Not the high-zoot Campy stuff, but all highly regarded. They were great until they weren't...
Spoke replacement is pricey.

I replaced them with handbuilts (including a few from EchelonJohn) and love what I have.

The second-hand handbuilt market seems to be an incredible value/opportunity.

Plenty of low-miles wheels with balleur hubs and Archetype/Belgium/DT Swiss rims on the classifieds.

Hell, the set of wheels I have that have seen the most miles are Archetypes with Bitex hubs, can't have cost $400 to have built new.

Zonda C17. Add 25c Vittoria Corsa+ tires & latex tubes for a ride that is hard to beat for the $.

Where do you live? It would be important if you and a seller of used wheels could meet and avoid shipping $$$$$.
