New vs Used

My being new to this (been riding 3-4 years) and not great mechanically...

will used be more of a headache than going new?

With a simple google search...these pop up quite a bit:
SHIMANO
WH-RS500

No, why?

Here's a wheelbuilder with a great reputation.

Buying from the wheelbuilder mentioned is simple. Send payment, newly built wheels are shipped to you.

When buying used here make sure your buying from a solid seller and you should be good.

Custom hand-built wheels are great, but tend to offer less value at lower price points. I'd go with Zondas if I were you.

Zondas (which are available with a shimano-compatible freewheel) are a great wheel. I'm looking at these Pacenti pre-builts, which look like a killer deal:
https://pacenticycledesign.com/produ...rim-brake-700c -- 1600g, 20mm internal width rims.

Based on the comment of 20mm internal width rims, do I need to watch that closely? I currently run 23mm tires....might move to 25mm if they will fit on my frame.

Pics always seem to be my hangup.

Once I get around to taking pics, I'll stick the following in the classifieds:

2 pr of Bontragers: Paradigm comp and RL both tubeless

1 pr of TB14s (6800 rear/?Formula? ft) 28/32

Mavic Cosmos that are indeed 11sp (blk rear rim replaced w an Open Pro)

then 2 pair of Open Pro/Reflex tubulars (1 set w D/A hubs, the other w 6800 (32/32)

then a pair of Mach2 Ceramics w 6800 hubs (32/32) (rear has a ding in the rim where I hit a rock just wrong in the Hilly Billy Roubaix a few years ago. Doesn't affect performance other than you can feel it when braking)

then a pair of DT Swiss 411s w a Bontrager rear and 350 ft hub (28/28) never ridden!

and at least one more set that I'm forgetting

M

Call Tony at Fairwheel Bikes. He built my wife a very nice wheelset with DT 350 hubs, Kinlin rims, and Sapin spokes for under $500.
