States are not seeing huge spikes, the overall trend for mortality is way down. The “case numbers” obsessed about by media reports are not cases in any medical sense of the word - they are people with positive tests, most of whom are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. The WHO itself just released its latest estimate of global infection rates at 750,000,000 infected, which, with around a million deaths is an infection fatality rate of around .15%, which is half that of common forms of influenza. Despite being constantly shouted at by frightened people who obsess about positive test numbers, we need to speak up with real basic information like this. If you are old or have a lot of comorbid factors, isolate if you wish, but for the rest of society we need to stop the fear and proceed with life.

Tell that to the people who test positive for cancer but feel fine.
