Good story. The photos are terrific.

I bought my father a Great Pyrenees pup in the mid-70s as a Christmas gift. Among other critters, we raised Rambouillet sheep on my parent's farm and our flock was repeatedly ravaged (really ugly) by both stray and domestic dogs. At the time, I learned that Great Pyrenees were excellent guard dogs for flocks.

After the introduction of Heidi, and shortly later Munchie, our flock was never again attacked. And humans never invaded the farm either.

Great Pyrenees are loyal and friendly family dogs.

I've had a few dogs (including my dad's Golden) get all territorial with me when I'm on my bike. Every single one changed its demeanor immediately once I remove my helmet and glasses. It seems Helmet Guy is not to be trusted, but No Helmet Guy is a good source for ear scratches.

I'm Over That Now

Thank you for all of your comments. I've had my share of run-ins with dogs while out riding, especially since embracing the gravel scene and I have to say, nearly all of them mean me no harm. Oftentimes I'll slow to a stop and allow them to sniff my hand. Their wagging tails are a good sign that they come in peace. I was the guy from here (the video was shared previously) who ended up on the Judge Judy show years ago after a crash with an unleashed dog. It took me close to two years before I was comfortable riding on the highway again out of fear that a dog would run out and take me down. Thankfully, I'm over that now.

Fantastic shot and great story. We have a couple rescue mutts that are mostly pyrenees and we love the breed. They are definitely lovers most of the time unless they are provided or feel their flock is being threatened. Dogs on farms roads are definitely a concern of mine. So far I've been lucky enough to not have any chance me out of their yards.
