650b update

howdy, y'all! Just thought I'd pop in to post some photos of the bike as a 650b conversion. Surprisingly, the frame and Whisky fork clear proper 2.1 mountain tires. It's quite close and I had to trim the side knobs on the front tire but I don't get any noticeable rub while riding. I also adapted the shifter to work with an 11 dyna-sys deore XT derailleur and cassette using a wolftooth tanpan aka everything old is new again. 11-42t on a roadish bike totally rules and is life changing; I highly recommend you do this on every bike you own.
Having this much air volume definitely improves the ride quality off road although it feels a little sluggish on pavement. riding 40mm tires on the original 700c wheels was plush but making the jump to much bigger tires lets me choose sketchier lines and is far more forgiving when I space out thinking about sandwiches or something stupid I said eight years ago. thanks for looking!

Hi! It was my intent to freshen up a drivetrain but ended up converting it to a 1x11 system in the end. This is also my first go on an elliptical chainring other than a bio-pace crankset. Feels good and I can totally tell the difference or whatever. Thanks for looking!

Loving the periodic reports of this bike's evolution. Feels like going through photo albums watching a nice self-possessed kid grow up

Swell bike too.

Aye, just wanted to update this freaky thread with a photo of the ranfla on new wheels (thanks, jgm!) I'm back on 700c wheels (velocity blount ss) and a longer stem and it definitely feels like a road bike again. new jandd feed bag for snacks and stuff.
