Trick Stuff Piccola
Does anyone have any experience with these XC MTB brakes? Also where can you buy a set?

Never owned Trickstuff except their Power brake pads for my Magura brakes. They felt much better than other pads I had used in the past -- more modulation, and more power.
But a few years ago I did test ride a Scott Spark that came equipped with Piccola brakes set. The CNC on the brake is astonishing. It looked like jewelry. Forget Chris King, or White Industries, or Paul CNC -- the Picolla's were on a different level. I did a quick ride on he Spark but I could not say objectively if the brakes were better. This is perhaps because the bike was new and the brakes perhaps were not bedded? Dunno. But regardless, I would love to own a set one day. You can buy a set of Trickstuff Maxima at bike24. Currently in stock! https://www.bike24.com/p2314798.html |

I have held the Maxima downhill brake in my hand and given it a test squeeze in a parking lot. Can confirm they are the most exquisitely constructed bike product I’ve encountered and the brake feel is…. The only word that I can come up with is “velvety.”
The guy who had them on his rig had to wait 8 months to get them and took advantage of some bike shop employee price. Given my propensity to thrash and break stuff I can’t imagine spending that much on a component that is often exposed in falls but they are no doubt drool worthy. Edit: worth noting that the reviews indicate the bleed procedure is a bit complicated and they use a unique brake fluid called “Bionol” that is made from sunflower oil. Not clear to me if they will accept normal mineral oil - some brakes have seals that are sensitive to out of spec oil. Last edited by EB; 10-30-2024 at 08:56 AM. |

The Piccola is wildly beautiful and if I were putting cash into updating my rather dusty XC bike either those or the latest Hope XC brakes would go on for sure.

I have 5 sets, they are completely worth it. Better than any other brakes I have tried. 4 sets are on MTBs, one set on my tarmac.
Any of the euro stores are a good place to get them, I like R2 but bikecomponents, or starbike or bike24 are all good too. |
