OT: Rats!

grumble.

wife informs me this morning that the pool filter will not run. hmmm

outdoor lights: no-go

check garage: breaker for outdoor lights tripped. will not reset.

disconnect everything, no faults in any plugs/lights/filter/etc.

continued isolation; conclusion: buried feeder cable shorted somehow.

trace cable path, unearth most of the cable until little dug hole found and wire chewed through.

I can only hope the little bastard nuked himself when he took the wire out.

grumble over. unexpected project underway.

It certainly looks like he got nuked.

When we lived in the old farm house we had mice, at least until we got cats then I never saw another mouse in the house, and they had me worried about starting fires with the VERY old wiring in the house. Once in a while my Truck would not start for the same reasons.

Nick, is that rated as direct burial?
When I did my EV charger installation I spent the extra $ and put the wiring in conduit, just didnt want to worry about 7-8 kW going where it shouldn't.

It's always something!

it is indeed direct bury wire, or was.

It's replacement is going inside of aluminum flex armor conduit.

It really is always something.

Last night I plugged in my outdoor lights and half of them didn't turn on. A quick examination revealed that while I was cutting ivy off my fence the day before, I accidentally severed the electrical wire that led to my lights with the electric trimmer.

I'm just glad they weren't plugged in when I did so!

Anyway. Oops. Can't blame the rats for that one.

Hmm...I found a curious brown root when I was digging up a bush in the garden.

Turns out that root was delivering nutrients to the lamp post

Then turned out that a direct burial splice was faster/quicker/cheaper than waiting for my electrician to fix it.

The first time Iived in the woods I just used small diameter PVC pipe to protect from field mice, groundhogs, etc.
