We just had schools get closed for 2 weeks in town and about 5 other surrounding towns.

Glad we're home and healthy.. going to be interesting being holed up for at least 2 weeks with my kid. I don't really like being stuck inside and it's tough to work at home even without the kid home!

Closing school was the right thing to do though! Just cause kids only have like a 2% chance of their illness going beyond "mild" doesn't mean they won't spread it like crazy to parents & grandparents.

We didn't really prepare enough.. going to go grocery shopping tonight with an eye on filling in the "preparedness" holes in what we have.. mostly around trying to minimize how much we have to go out for food.

I bought about 4lbs of unground coffee beans last weekend at trader joes... hope my grinder doesn't break. Then I'll really go crazy.

You are absolutely correct, it's more an issue of not fully realizing what we were signing up for. I'm an uncle, definitely not a saint.

In fairness to the Mod who locked the thread, he did say “I'm closing it for now” and “I'll ask for input from the other mods but my feeling is that we need to take a break on this topic” ...so it may be reopened.

I did close the thread at about midnight last night. I wanted input from the other mods most of whom live on the East Coast.
In general I read a lot of good information in the thread and yes we asked everyone several times to stay away from politics. Let's stick to what we know about the virus as much as possible.

Please refrain from making swipes that aren't relevant to the topic and can be seen as a purely political statement.

Disneyland has been declared exempt from closing, just like casinos.

Wow

They canceled the ACC Tournament, there are two people confirmed to have the virus in my county (they got it on a cruise ship) and now local schools are weighing options.

what is Toronto Testing say about prevalence?

I don't understand the attitude about low risk? That attitude is why people are popping up positive, ie NBA player. It is easy to look up the modelling for this virus, factor in the weeks it has been here, % of individuals who are ASYMPTOMATIC (last I saw that is >80%) , and the models calculate the number of DIAGNOSED cases out there for every case that pops up. IF you have adequate population sampling, please post it. People getting "deals" and/or doing non-essential travel, trips, contact with groups, when they don't know the background rate of viral prevalence in their own area, let alone where they travel, and they can't possibly know what other travelers they may interact with, or breathe recycled air from closer than 6 feet...recipe for spreading it.

Mod asks "Please refrain from making swipes that aren't relevant to the topic", and within a minute 2 more swipes?
