Mine is for sale. I would link photos, but the hoops I need to jump through here makes it to much work.

Our 2006 Burley Rumba from the last year they produced tandems. As parts have worn out, nearly everything except the frame and fork have been replaced. This bike has done it all: fun and fitness, road and gravel, road races and time trials. It’s one of the most versatile bikes we own.

This arrived a couple of months ago. Only one ride to date, but it performs like a much newer tandem.

This is from spring 2013 in a local TT. The Paketa also has a road setup with normal bars and positions.

"Autobike"
Had this for many years while the kids were growing up, finally gave it to Goodwill two years ago. Bought this on eBay for $50. Periscope - can accommodate stoker being an adult to a child as young as 5.

I'm very interested to hear more about your experiences with the Periscope. I'm looking closely at one, as I may use it with both an adult and kid stoker.

The periscope is not bred as a performance racer. Its main design goal was to accommodate a wide range of age groups for the Stoker. And it accomplished that very well with the rear geometry, extensible stem and the telescopic seatpost design.
But it comes with a trade-off as you can imagine to design a bike with that kind of range and versatility. It's not "optimized" but rather accommodates. That's exactly what I was looking for when I go hunting for a tandem because I got six kids all spread out in ages, body lengths and heights. I rode it with my daughter when she was 3 or 4 using a crank shorterner kit. As long as you (and the Stoker) set up your expectations accordingly, you will have loads of fun riding together. Mine is set up with a rear disc in the back and V brakes in the front, more than enough braking power than we need. It has tire clearance up to 32-35 mm which is nice. I have put on a pair of narrower knobbies and taken it off road, it works. It has provisions for racks and fenders so you can even take it for tours and multi-day bike packing. It rides smooth and stable. I like it that it's steel construction. The paint is very durable. All in all, a high quality package. They are not easy to find. If you manage to locate one, jump on it, don't hesitate. Feel free to PM for further questions.

We also have a Periscope, in addition to our triple.
I will echo what weisan said: It does everything I ask of it, and it is incredibly convenient to use with our 3 kids of different heights, including our youngest who is very short. Highly recommend. |
