Replacement bearings for threadless Campagnolo Headset?
I've been slowly deep cleaning/refurbishing my bikes this winter (just got the refreshed shifters and derailleurs back from OldPotato!!). In the process, I seem to have misplaced the bearings for top of a Chorus threadless headset (1").
What is the best way to procure the proper replacement bearings? Our local shops are not very Campagnolo friendly, so I'm likely at the mercy of more long-distance solutions. Thanks in advance! Edit to add: is it as simple as buying a set of HS-RE005 from eBay? Last edited by exapkib; 01-15-2022 at 06:34 PM. |

The simplest thing is to locate good quality individual stainless steel ball bearings in the same size. Reuse the bearing retainers or install balls without. Someone else will have suggestions for correct sizes and current availability.

Quote:
Top bearings are 5/32, bottom are 3/16. Install w/o cage. Grease in there, add bearings until they touch, remove one.

Thank you for answering the question I didn't quite articulate clearly. To make sure I'm understanding correctly: no need to spring for the official Campagnolo bearing set, and no need to procure the retainer that was there originally. It's that correct?
