Why do my hands go a bit numb?
Fit seems fine, does not feel like too much weight on them. Sometimes it's just my right hand...

Good question, I get this feeling riding my mountain bike. I wanna say I was griping to tight but a fellow biker recommended a softer grip with a different shape. Could be from vibration and gripping tight?. Hopefully others will chime in on this.

Used to happen to me just due to wrist angle. Play a bit with it by tilting the bars.

I've started getting numb hands a lot recently when riding my rigid mtn bike. I tried a fatter Oury grip, but felt myself clinching it too tightly. I switched from the 3 deg straight bar I had to one with a 22 deg sweep. That actually worked, but I felt I lost a lot of control on technical sections and carving switchbacks. I then moved to a 17 deg sweep bar (Salsa Bend 2) and I think I finally found the perfect compromise.

Mine were getting numb, then after my chiropractor spent an hour on my spine, shoulders, ankles, knees, neck, and so forth, I was about an inch taller and no hand numbness. My neck was way out of whack and was creating problems with my shoulders.

I’ve had it happen to me before. The bibs I was wearing in combination with the jersey were a bit too tight around my bicep and shoulder.

Sounds like Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. It's a real nuisance. I keep it in check by strengthening my forearm muscles with a gyroscopic wrist ball.

I tend to lock my elbows when I get tired on longer rides, especially my left, leading to numbness. I usually shake it out and try to leave my arms bent a little to avoid, but it is a natural tendency of mine.

I have that happen when I ride near or above threshold, seemed to present about when I hit 40, 57 now. Being fit or not doesn't seem to affect it. I just assumed blood was going to the legs instead of my arms. Doesn't seem to matter road, TT, or mountain bike so I threw out blaming the position and or equipment. Same position since the mid 80's.

I would ask your doctor/ physician.. Numbness can be all kinds of things.

It may be fit, it may having nothing to do with fit.
In my case on my rigid (no-suspension anywhere) GT mtb (which I used to use primarily on gravel roads) the hand numbness/tingly feeling was due to vibration. I lowered the tire pressure by about 15-20 psi down to the bottom range of acceptable and the problem went away. Good Luck |

Could be anything, but often small adjustments can address. If tilting or raising bars dont affect, you might try sliding saddle back, or tilting back. After (or before) that, perhaps try different bars.
