Hi - I am looking for someone to restore my Eddy Merckx or good custom bike painter that is located close to the Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, or Pennsylvania area.

Dan Murphy is painting under the moniker Chill Cycle. He does all of Simon Firth's (Hanford) bikes and many one-offs for others. He's here in Philly: https://www.instagram.com/chillcycle/?hl=en

I saw a really great Merckx restoration that was done by Franklin frames. Probably cost you $30 each way to ship. Painting is the last thing I would worry about proximity for.

Is Fresh Frames in PA still open? Their website seems to have gone away. I know they did painting for Bishop. Absolutely amazing work.

It would be a shame if they don’t do it anymore. I saw a Bishop for the first time this past autumn at the Philly bike expo. That paint was delicious looking.

Tom Kellogg of spectrum cycles is second to none. I beat on a titanium frame he painted . Amazing finish and durable . Check out his Flickr , I've definitely seen beautiful Merckx colnago and pegoretti repaints :https://www.flickr.com/photos/spectr...57627411322830

Franklin Frames is in Ohio. Great work, I've seen it and would give it top marks.

I've also had excellent results from Alan Wanta in Clearwater, FL. I know some other folks have not had good experiences with him, but he's painted eight frames or so for me including five or six Merck frames, and even though I'm very picky, I've been a happy guy.

In response to the OP, I live in the DC area and have not found any painters in the area of note. And since Figure LLC stopped taking outside orders, no good powder coaters, either.

This was the first thing that came to mind (though I’m not sure about a Merckx restoration). Bishop frames always look beautiful.
