Ha, the infamous join the training ride of your favorite pro team when they come to town scene, only to have one of them stuff your pump through your spokes. Ouch! No spaghetti for dinner tonight mom, I’m not feeling very “Italian” today.

The more iconic it is, the more widely known it is and the easier it is to come to mind without much effort. It's not iconic if you have to do some research or google it in order to find it or jolt your memory.
I would say the most iconic bike of all time is the Colnago C40. Bellerini riding Paris-Roubaix on the Colnago C40. Photo: Graham Watson Second to that...as much as we don't like to admit, is probably the Trek OCLV with the US Postal Team.

This picture kind of makes me turn my tummy. I bought that bike at used bike sale about 15 years ago for 275.00 We had small house and wife said it wouldn't stay so I sold it to what would become bike rendezvous for 700 plus 2 silk tires. :-(

**The most iconic bikes of all time**?

Wait! More info on the backstory here please. What I’m getting is that this frame was yours at some point, and then you sold it to someone else who turned it into the picture above? My tummy is turning a bit for you as well. It’s a frame I remember lusting after. It’s beautiful. What do you mean when you say it became “bike rendezvous”? This is a great thread by the way. And yes, that Merckx photo of the bike and the man is certainly iconic. And the C40 for sure. So many great memories being brought up in this thread. Last edited by Calnago; 01-08-2019 at 05:23 PM. |

Broblem being, that many of the bikes mentioned were completely indistinguishable from their contemporary "non-iconic" siblings if cosmetic stuff like paint or fork engravings were removed...

Very fun thread. Reminded of several *iconic* bikes, and several I didn't know. Previously mentioned the Luis Ocana Motobocane as it doesn't seem to fit and yet. That was the bike the rider Merckx called his greatest competitor rode. This isn't a poll, but seems like if it were and didn't include TT or MTB bikes, then the C40 might *win*.
