His Amstel Gold win was insane.
This video doesn't mention it but the reason for wearing white shorts - it was so his team could pick him out on the TV (team directors, apparently two brothers). Thing was that the Luxembourg and Dutch national champ kits were super similar (as are their flags) and it was hard for the directors to tell them apart. So they had MVdP wear white shorts so they could tell it was him.
