Kirk custom cut lugs

I didn’t want to to hijack Dave Kirk’s thread about his custom cut lugs, so I’ll start this one to show just how well Dave does things.

This was the first frameset that I had custom built, back in 2004. I gave Dave free reign on the details and this is what he came up with. And if I recall correctly, this was the first frame Joe Bell painted for him. I love these guys, the dynamic duo to coin a phrase.

I read Dave’s thread every time he posts something new and I still marvel at his work.

It’s my initial, T. Like everyone else that has had a custom frame built I went through the exquisite pain of all the choices one can to make: geometry, style, colors, ad infinitum. Being a newbie though I really didn’t know much but being a Serotta fanboy those many years ago I knew of Dave Kirk for his many accomplishments at Serotta. So when he hung out his frame builder shingle, I was first in line.

I went to Bozeman with a bottle of fine red wine, rode with Dave and watched as he laid out my frame on paper. The one thing I knew I wanted was some sort of medallion or insignia that would make this bike particularly mine. Dave and I collaborated on the insignia, a T in a circle attached to the seat tube lug.

Give credit to Joe Bell too, lotsa work there. I remember Joe contacting me when he received the raw frame to ask me exactly what I wanted. He said he “wanted to make sure it was puss.”

Thanks for putting up these inspiring pics, Dave. DK and JB collaborate on great work that still looks fabulous years later. Fine craftsmanship just keeps resonating.

I can't figure out what this means, even with a Google search. The closest non-crass substitution is "face" but that still doesn't make sense.

A SoCal slang term roughly equivalent to ‘bitchen’. Or more properly; ‘fine’.

The level of detail is off the charts. Very nice stuff. Colorway looks great too.
On the edge of my seat, awaiting full frame/build shots....
