PNS Stowaway jacket! A bit on the pricier end but lightweight and very packable.

Pactimo
Looks like a great option. Gotta check fit.

The Rapha jacket I bought here in the classifieds has been excellent.

It's spendy and not waterproof, but I love my Arc Teryx Zeta SL. Wicked light and breathes well. It will work in a rainstorm, but is not made for that. I have a Beta AR for that stuff.
They're expensive, but stand behind their product. I had a Beta SL that delaminated after 5 years and they replaced it fully. Then when I tore the second one through hard use, I sent it to them asking if it could be repaired for a cost because I loved the jacket. Since they could not, they offered to either send it back or give me a significant discount on a new jacket. That's how I got the Zeta and love it. https://arcteryx.com/us/en/shop/mens...e=282-304-5579 Last edited by eippo1; 02-25-2021 at 11:40 AM. Reason: link |

Another vote for the Pactimo Divide. I use both their jacket and vest and have found them superior to my older Pearl Izumi variants. The mesh back is great.
Their Keystone jacket is the single most versatile cool to cold weather jacket I've ever owned. With layering it works in some very low temps. |

Gore shakedry is as light or lighter than all of these, breathes better and is waterproof to boot - category killer.

The velocio ultra light is quite but lighter, more breathable, more packable than the shake dry. The shake dry is a little warmer and a lot more water resistant.

I have a Castelli that I've been hauling around for a decade. It's good. It's starting to come apart...money well spend.
I now have a Sportful Hot Pack. If it was good enough for Sagan, it's good enough for this fat bastard. A Google search shows it can be had for CHEAP on many sites. |

The Arcteryx Squamish hoody has been a great outer layer.
Windproof, water resistant, very packable. Love it for both road and mountainbiking. https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/mens/squamish-hoody |

Best on a budget: Decathlon
Best expensive ones: Ringtail, Rapha I also use a houdini all the time for non-biking, and have used it a bunch for biking too. If you get a houdini, make sure it's one without a hood. Even without a hood, mine flaps a lot on descents. Maybe I need to size down as Joost indicated. I already have a small though, so not sure if that means I should try an XXS? |

So for those of you recommending various jackets, some of which are not "featherweight" IMHO, what type of riding do you do, and in what sort of conditions?
While I'm quite happy with what I have, I'd be interested in more specific/applicable conditions. At least in my area there's a big difference between riding on the road in dry/windy conditions and riding in the shaded woods on dirt in wetter/less windy conditions. Road/rain Road/wind Road/cold Woods/dirt/humid/wet track Woods/dirt/dry/dry track etc. Being an engineer, I'm probably overthinking this, so please don't feel compelled to reply. Thanks.

Apparently I have too many lightweight wind jackets, but they *are* a bit of kit that I get good use out of with our Texas weather.
In order of favoriteness: 1.) Rapha team-something-or-other. I don't recall the correct name, but it's the one with the loose mesh back. It's super stow-able, and great when you need some wind protection without overheating. It's just really good. 2.) Gore Shakedry. 3.) Rapha Stowaway. Looking at my list, these also appear to be in order of thickness/heaviness (lightest first). . . |

I picked up a Rapha Spray Jacket years ago on closeout at their London store. It's performed better than expected.
