Sagan cardiac issue

Sorry can’t post a link; looks like Peter Sagan has had some sort of cardiac rhythm issue (?) recently. From his IG today there is a medical/electrophysiology report in Italian (with translation). He apparently underwent implantation of a monitoring device in Italy. He says he’ll be back on the bike soon.

I wonder if the mountain bike is cursed for him - he's going to need pretty good results to qualify for the Olympic XC race and this is not going to help.

Oof, that's not going to help his run up to the Olympics.

These cardiac issues are scary (I had an ablation ~10 years ago).

Absent some weird UCI shenanigans about how the qualification process goes, it's nearly impossible for Slovakia to put a rider in the Olympic field. Escaped Collective did a breakdown, here.

^^^^^ This x1000

Very scary. I had my first ablation about 16 years ago at 43 YO when i was in the best physical shape of my life. All my symptoms came back worse than original issues. Had a second ablation that didn't take as well. Had a third one 12 years ago next month and have luckily been symptom free since then.

I hope Sagan gets this dealt with and is healthy.

Wow, reading that breakdown, that seems extremely hard to accomplish even for a world class XC talent in peak form and at peak age, just given the randomness and vagaries of bike racing. And he's not in peak form or at peak age.

Svt

Sounds like Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT). I have SVT now for several years, only goes haywire when exercising , mostly cycling, and my HR will go up to 225 bpm. I don't always feel it and surprisingly my heart isn't jumping out of my chest. I mostly notice it only on cycling computer, but not always, when I do I slow down and it always comes back to a normal HR of around 135 bpm. My understanding from my cardiologist is that it occurs in the upper chamber of the heart, and I'm told is not dangerous. I'm not considering an ablation unless it gets worse. Hope the ablation works for Sagan.
