Camera setup for road bike?

We've had a lot of close calls on our club rides this year. A lot of cars do not give any space when passing (there is a 1 meter law here now..), some intentionally swerve in at us. Some throw things out their windows as they go by, etc etc etc.

Is there a camera setup that is a clean install/setup (not luggage hanging off the bike) that can actually catch a good view all around you, so can see if something happens beside you and/or catch a plate as they pull in front of you?

But here is the harsh reality of it, what are you going to do w your close calls. LE doesn’t give a hoot. Unless your actually hit & then not so much.

Run time will be the big challenge. The Fly6 and 12 are very good(4-10 hrs), most others not so much (<2hrs). Someone across the hall bought a Rideye, I'm waiting to read feedback.

Fly 6 rear and GoPro Hero 5 session on the front. Very compact. Not the perfect solution but should capture enough should something happen. Good run time on both.

What kind of run time do you get with the Session?

Fly 12 and 6 as been mentioned.

This is a bit compressed, the raw footage is in really nice quality. Especially the front camera. The rear camera picks up sound better.

The front is quite costly but its a nice setup and they are both lights as well for the "nighttime". The front is even a rather nice and bright light.

Both uses a loop system which means it will continue record over the old stuff when the memory is full unless you chose to save segments with a button or in case of a fall / incident (think its something like 3 seconds with the bike tilting more than 45 degrees or similar for it to auto save that and the previous and coming segment).

I can only say good things about in total even if there are a few software glitches in the app.

I get at least 7 hours of riding with the batteries which is good, never tried to record longer could perhaps do a bit more.

Sort of a hijack on my part, but lets here some examples of close encounters, supported w vid, where LE did something.

I’ll venture a guess, that in rare cases of extremity, that LE isn’t going “yep 3 foot law broken, lets run the plates, get an address & go get ‘em.”

Maybe CA is better?

That's not why I ride with my Fly6. It's there in case I get hit, harassed, threatened, or beaten. Something a cop is going to care about.

^ True that. However, I’m just questioning the logic, mine included, that one has ever served a purpose prior to impact/injury.

I suppose there is an example, but anecdotally, it appears to be rare.

And, I know some camera enthusiasts, who imo, don’t make use of the tools avail to not get hit. Daytime lights, for example.

I gave up the fly6 to have a more powerful light w a longer burn time. Plus the Garmin radar. Avoid impact vs proving fault or ID hit and run.
