QS just contracted the Belgian champ Merlier. Cav does not to be part of QS future with Jacobsen pretty much selected for TdF

They should let Cav start and he can retire upon winning one stage/sprint.

In my fantasy land mind...

Yep. My bad. One of the others was from Trinity.

Yep, great race--attack-counter attack the last 10k or so. Cav had to fight to get back on terms when Ben Turner made his big move. When Bostock crashed he nearly took out Cav. Maybe the stars will align again for Cav and he'll get his chance at Le Tour.

As per Cycling News, Cav's Tour participation has been extinguished. Surprised by that.

Big mistake, if Cav isn't part of the show I seriously doubt I'll watch.

It was a spirited ride from Cav from the early break. At least he'll likely have his pick of wt teams for next year.

If the metric is eyeballs, there might be the occasional person, probably from an Anglophone country, who is watching only for Cavendish. If the metric is European exposure, wins, and building for the future, then QS has to go all in for Jakobsen. He's the fastest guy in the world in a flat bunch sprint and he's got the best lead out man* in the world.

*The real answer is that whoever is on Morkovs wheel in the last 600m is going to win.

Cav's renewed joy, motivation and invigoration with cycling clearly shows and I hope will continue...but unfortunately, I think he has lost some of his top-end speed and that "edge". Even if he gets sent to TDF, I am not sure he will be able to grab a stage win.

On the other hand, he is definitely worthy of at least a place at the TDF startup list.

I think on almost any other team he's worthy of a spot, but he's not the kind of versatile rider that's going to help in other ways when he can't fight for the sprint win. You either bring him and say we're going to get as many flat stages as we can or you leave him home.

Sure, he has lost some bounce, but he did win four stages last year? And is equal to Merckx for total stage wins? One stage win away from exclusive ownership of the record? I think many punters like myself would tune-in to see if he could do it. The investors want our viewership. Give them what we want.

Hell yes he should go. Guy wins 4 stages last year and the British title a week before the Tour? Any other team would love to have this guy there.

If you take Cav, it’s a proverbial quarterback controversy with Fabio, and you risk your relationship with your sprinter of the future. Cav brings eyeballs but on the course he brings nothing if it’s not a flat sprint with him as the centerpiece. Perhaps when he was younger and stronger he should have shown the slightest interest in working for others. He’d at least be able to reference that.
